prairie daze

claiming our daze and our days on the prairie

snow fire…yes!

dream satisified
my own wonderings about fires
within igloo-type structures
are satisified.

we gathered the snow from around the yard
(under trees where it hadn’t melted
a corner of the lean-to roof still in shade
under the trampoline…)
while eliza fell asleep in the stroller (yes, she’s sick)

dropped it all into a big mound

dug out a hole with a hoe

used the handle to make a “chimney” vent

had sally bring us the fire starters
and built. a. fire.
it didn’t melt
it was magical
then we came out after supper
with blankets and jammies

and built a fire in the dark
magical
magical
magical

You are so dang creative. Your kids are so lucky, and that is REALLY cool! I would have thought it would end in melted disaster.

    MAGICAL TO THE MAX!!!!!!

Wow. How absolutely beautiful and creative. And the photos: Prize shots, to be sure!!! I would have loved to be there. Who knows, maybe we’ll have enough snow to do it again when you’re here in Markham. Hope so.

    Love you,

    Dad

Definitely magical! What a fun experiment/experience. I know what we’re doing next time it snows here!

Oh thank-you! You are surely satisfying all of my snowy needs.
We’ve been reading ‘Christmas in Noisy Village’ where they make snow lanterns. As we don’t get snow here or in Oz we probably won’t get the chance to try.
So, once again, we live through you.
And Sal. If she wasn’t yours I know she’d be ours…;)
Hope Eliza feels better soon! Xxx

I remember building fires in snow forts with Nan when i was little – except we probably sat INSIDE the fort around the fire!

Karly, I knew I had in it me from somewhere.

I felt like Nan, too…letting my baby sleep outside in the COLD with the winter sun on her face.

Thanks for sharing this…my memory is even fonder!

We agree — You are the coolest Mommie ever. Just got back from celebrating “T-Rays” birthday… Yes that is Uncle Tom. We had a BIIIIGGGGG snow storm in places we had up to 15-20 inches of fallen sow. WOW! Miriam had come home from Ottawa – her plane did not fly for her return, so she took the train. We had a wonderful time! We love you – OMA/omi and OPA/opi

Now that’s a fabulous idea! I love the fire and ice elements together. Superb! Thanks for finding me again. Glad to have found you too!

Wish I could make a fire in the snow…. It was 80 degrees here today!

Oh, Sally. I can’t get over the weimeraner’s stoic, expressionless faces. No matter the joy, sadness, exhaustion, they always have that same face. Love it.

If we get a “real” load of snow this winter we should build a “big” one with a bunch of kids. We used to love hanging out in warm igloos (couple candles and a bunch of bodies is often enough to get inside temps way above freezing – even up to 50s) up north…

That looks so cool! I have to tell you, Aimee was quite jealous that you guys made a “magical igloo fire”. (hers didn’t go so well as you probably know) I just hope that I can be half the creative mom as you and Aimee are someday! You guys come up with the coolest stuff :)

Hope you guys have a Wonderful New Year!
